ECLIPSE Receives Environmental Excellence Award

The Erie County Department of Environment and Planning’s ECLIPSE program has been honored with an Environmental Excellence Award from the Erie County Environmental Management Council. The award recognizes outstanding local efforts that improve environmental quality and strengthen communities.

Launched in 2025, ECLIPSE (Erie County Low Income Program for Sustainable Energy) is a community solar initiative designed to lower electricity costs and expand access to renewable energy—especially for renters and households that may not be able to install rooftop solar. Since its launch, the program has connected with more than 5,000 residents through 166 outreach events, answered over 10,000 questions, and enrolled more than 2,500 households.

Over time, these enrollments are projected to deliver approximately $7.6 million in energy savings and generate more than 51,000 megawatt-hours of clean solar energy.

This recognition highlights the County’s commitment to equitable clean energy solutions and the growing impact of ECLIPSE across Erie County communities.
