The work involves interviewing applicants under the Emergency Crisis Assistance Program - a federally funded program that provides financial assistance to lower income persons in meeting their fuel bills. The program is re-funded each heating season. The incumbent makes determination on eligibility under the supervisor of Energy Crisis Worker #3. Supervision may be exercised over Energy Crisis Worker 1. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Reviews, investigates, evaluates documents for eligibility determination of applications for assistance with fuel bills;
  • Interviews applicants for the Emergency Crisis Assistance Program;
  • Assists in completing applications - gathers verifications needed;
  • Makes necessary determinations on each application and forwards to supervisor for approval.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good knowledge of interviewing techniques, good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; Some knowledge of business arithmetic and English; Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; Ability to get along well with others; Ability to perform interviewing and clerical duties in an efficient manner; Tact; Courtesy; Neatness; Physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; and:

A) Completion of one (1) year of study at a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university; or: 

B) One (1) year of office clerical experience which involved public contact; or: C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
