Supervisor of Building Construction & Maintenance – position # 51017051 ** Provisional

Starting Annual Salary: $61,871 (Job Grade 12 - CSEA)

The Erie County Department of Public Works Buildings & Grounds Division is seeking an individual for work that involves supervising activities involving construction/renovation projects and routine maintenance/ repair work and monitoring the progress of contracted work at either the Erie County Medical Center Corporation or Erie County Department of Public Works Division of Buildings and Grounds. The incumbent plans, assigns and supervises a variety of construction/renovation and maintenance/repair activities in order to expedite and facilitate the completion of the work in a timely and compliant manner. At ECMC work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Plant Operations and the Associate Director of Plant Operations. At Erie County Department of Public Works Division of Buildings and Grounds this person will report to the Deputy Commissioner or other higher-ranking employee. Supervision is exercised over a large number of building maintenance employees. Does related work as required.

  • Supervises a planned maintenance program including construction/renovation projects and routine maintenance/repair work of building structures;
  • Monitors progress of outside contractor projects;
  • Makes regular inspections of buildings and identifies needs for repairs;
  • Inspects and evaluates work performance;
  • Estimates cost of construction and repairs, including costs for outside contracting, for budget requests;
  • Provides daily guidance and directions to employees and representatives of outside contractors performing work on hospital property/County-owned facilities;
  • Plans the work of the division, schedules work coverage and makes assignments;
  • Maintains drawings and specifications of construction projects and repairs;
  • Ensures a safe work environment for staff, and/or patients/visitors;
  • Participates in departmental meetings on maintenance problems and confers regularly with department director on status of program and recommendations;
  • Prepares reports as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or registered New York State college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field and three (3) years of experience in building construction, at least two (2) years of which involved project management responsibilities; or

B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or registered New York State college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field and five (5) years of experience in building construction, at least two (2) years of which involved project management responsibilities; or

C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and seven (7) years of experience in building construction, at least two (2) years of which involved project management; or

D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C).

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the full-time experience requirements
