As authorized by the County Legislature, Erie County DEP commissioned a Needs Assessment of the current Erie County Holding Center and Erie County Correctional Facility. The intent was to critically evaluate the condition of each facility and associated programs, to estimate future bed space and programming needs, determine what a new state of the art, trauma informed facility would need to include, and developed preliminary cost estimates. The Consultant Team began work in early 2024 and are projected to complete their report by the end of 2024 or early 2025. A presentation was given by the Consultant Team to elected county officials and their staff on November 1, 2024 to provide an update briefing on the status of work to date and to identify the series of scenarios that are being evaluated for future consideration.
It should be stressed that this presentation is current as of November 1, 2024 and that the numbers, projections, conceptual scenarios, and preliminary cost estimates included within are subject to change as the analysis and assessment work continues. In an effort to be transparent and to allow feedback on the scenarios being developed, Erie County is making this briefing available to the general public. Updated information will be posted here as it becomes available.
