Erie County Senior Services' University Express Program Expands Learning Opportunities with Community Field Trips
Erie County, NY — The Erie County Department of Senior Services University Express Lifelong Learning Program continues to include enriching field trips that foster deeper connections within the community. Today's field trip brought more than 50 older adults to the Aurora Theatre for a special movie screening, allowing participants to enjoy both cultural enrichment and social interaction in a welcoming, community-based setting.
The University Express program, which offers a wide range of educational classes, has long been a beloved resource for older adults in Erie County. With the addition of community-based field trips, the program is offering participants the opportunity to explore local venues and experience the history and vibrancy of their surroundings in a new way.
Today's field trip to the historic Aurora Theatre in the heart of the East Aurora marked another significant step in the program's expansion. Attendees had the chance to enjoy a movie, socialize with peers, and engage with what may have been a new area to them.
“We are thrilled to offer our University Express members this new way to engage with the community,” said Erie County Senior Services Commissioner, Angela Marinucci. “The University Express program and this specific initiative not only broadens educational opportunities for older adults but also helps combat social isolation by providing people a chance to interact, learn, and create new friendships. The Aurora Theatre is a perfect example of the many gems Erie County has to offer, and we’re excited to continue adding similar experiences to the program.”
The addition of field trips is part of Erie County Senior Services' ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives of older adults. Through these outings, the program aims to strengthen social connections, promote lifelong learning, and encourage active engagement with the community.
Erie County Senior Services has plans for additional field trips in the coming semesters as the Fall semester is quickly coming to a close.
