City of Buffalo Enhances Advocacy for Disabled Residents

The Buffalo Common Council, Fillmore District Council Member Mitch Nowakowski, and Mayor Byron W. Brown have passed significant amendments to Article 18 of the City Charter, restructuring the Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities.
This initiative, sponsored by Mitch Nowakowski, aims to enhance the effectiveness and representation of the committee, ensuring better advocacy for our disabled community.
Key Highlights:
-Reduced members from 21 to 11 for a more focused approach
-Specific representation for persons with disabilities, organizations serving them, and caregivers
-Minimum of 4 meetings per year for regular oversight and communication
-Enhanced responsibilities including policy advisement and monitoring building accessibility
The ordinance amendment takes effect immediately, marking a new chapter in Buffalo’s dedication to inclusivity and accessibility.
