Target Audience / Prerequisites

Completion of a Basic Course for Police Officers

Preference will be given to Officers from the

145th & 146th Basic Course for Police Officers

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  The Erie County Law Enforcement Training Academy (ECLETA), under the auspices of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), will hold a Breath Analysis Operator Course.  This course trains law enforcement personnel in the operation of the DataMaster DMT infrared breath test instrument. The program presents information on the effects of alcohol on the human body, operational procedures, NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law pertaining to DWI enforcement, and pertinent case law. Students must pass both a written test and an instrument proficiency examination to be certified.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 90% attendance (students may miss 10% of the course for good reason)
  • 70% passing on a written examination
  • Satisfactory completion of instrument proficiency testing

  • Police Uniform or business casual attire; blue jeans, T-shirts & sneakers are unacceptable!

  • Placement is NOT on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Agencies may be limited in enrollment to allow equal opportunity to this course.
  • AGENCIES OUTSIDE OF ERIE COUNTY ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT AN OUT-OF-COUNTY RESIDENCY FORM FOR EACH ATTENDEE ONE WEEK BEFORE THE START DATE OF THE COURSE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN NON-ADMISSION TO THE COURSE.
