Course Announcement: CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) Advanced Training & Field Visits
2 Options to Attend: Wednesday April 23 OR Tuesday April 29, 2025 -- 0800 - 1600
Location: Crisis Services, 100 River Rock Drive Ste 300, Buffalo, NY 14207
Who Can Attend?: This 8-hour course is recommended for sworn police or peace officers who have previously attended Crisis Intervention Team training, who want to increase their specialization in mental health, get up-to-date information on mental health resources, and get more involved in the connection and partnership between mental health emergency response and police.
Classroom Instruction will take place over 4 hours and include thorough review of mental health conditions and specific communication, guidance, lethality assessments, diversion and follow-up, and an update on best practices for mental hygiene law. Group discussions are essential to this course. Instruction is presented in proud partnership between Crisis Services Emergency Mental Health Department with CIT Officers from Town of Lancaster, Village of Hamburg, and Town of Cheektowaga Police.
Field visits will take place over 3 hours in the afternoon in partnership with Erie County Medical Center Behavioral Health, Recovery Options Made Easy Respite & Recovery Center, and Restoration Society.
