Course Description:

Risk Management and Liability are two words that are sometimes difficult for police officers to embrace.  For the officer and supervisor on the street it can often feel like administrative oversight and policy requirements get in the way of simply, "getting the job done."  Many police leaders find it difficult to get past the frustration of all the legalese and court decisions that are often a part of liability training.  Yes managing the risk is a skill that all good leaders should possess, and this session will look at risk management not as a liability or "CYA" issue, but as a valuable tool in the leader's toolbox.

Instructors:

Greg Veitch is a retired police chief and graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy. He holds a master’s degree in leadership and has taught leadership and risk management principles to police leaders and risk managers for the Public Risk Managers Association and New York State Association of Chief of Police.

Dennis Nayor is a retired Chief of Police having served with the cities of Oneonta and Ithaca, NY. A graduate of the FBI National Academy and LEEDA Command Institute, Dennis holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and is on the faculty at the University of San Diego’s Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership Program. Dennis brings insight gained through experiencing a series of high profile incidents including civil unrest that brought national attention to his department, police reform efforts and a fatal officer involved shooting.
