145th BASIC COURSE FOR POLICE OFFICERS

     July 29, 2024 to December 13, 2024

 

160 HOURS OF FIELD TRAINING BY EMPLOYING AGENCY TO BE COMPLETED BY: 

February 21, 2025

The SUNY Erie Law Enforcement Training Academy will be conducting a Basic Course for Police Officers, commencing July 29, 2024 and concluding December 13, 2024.

 

*All newly hired Police Officers are mandated to attend this course within one year of their date of appointment. Classes will be conducted at the Law Enforcement Training Academy which is located at SUNY Erie Community College – North Campus Building – B-714. All law enforcement agencies are welcome to register their Police Officers in this course. 

 

Candidates must also comply with the Physical Fitness Screening Requirements as per DCJS Police Officer Appointments General Information, Section 6000.8, titled Physical Fitness Screening. This section requires that a candidate test at the 40th percentile of the fitness test for sit-ups, push–ups and the 1.5 mile run.  Any candidate that has not taken the Physical Fitness Screening Test normally administered by a civil service commission must contact the Academy and make arrangements for a Physical Fitness Screening Test.

 

Agencies anticipating new hires are encouraged to reserve a slot(s). Names can be forwarded once actual hiring is confirmed. Enrollment is limited.  Preference shall be given to Erie County Agencies.

E-mail – https://www3.erie.gov/cps/form/144th-basic-course-for-police-of or mail the attached Enrollment Request Form not later than July 12, 2024. Enrollment forms received after that date will be accepted on a space available basis only. Registration packets with all pertinent course information and student forms will be sent to respective departments after enrollment form is received by the Academy with a closing date of July 12, 2024.

* All candidates must be lawfully appointed at the time of attendance (first day) as per DCJS In-Service Training guide for Police and Peace Officer Employees (see section titled “Police and Peace Officer Prerequisites” -  page 16) and the Police Registry form DCJS-2214-A, needs to be completed.
