COURSE DESCRIPTION:  The Erie County Law Enforcement Training Academy (ECLETA), under the auspices of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), will be holding a Breath Analysis Operator Course.  This course trains law enforcement personnel in the operation of the DataMaster DMT infrared breath test instrument. The program presents information on the effects of alcohol on the human body, operational procedures, NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law pertaining to DWI enforcement, and pertinent case law. Students must pass both a written test and an instrument proficiency examination to be certified.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 90% attendance (students may miss 10% of the course for good reason)
  • 70% passing on a written examination
  • Satisfactory completion of instrument proficiency testing

PLEASE OBSERVE THE ACADEMY DRESS CODE:

  • Police Uniform or business casual attire; blue jeans, T-shirts & sneakers are NOT acceptable!

  • YOU MUST RECEIVE TELEPHONE OR EMAIL CONFIRMATION FOR ENROLLMENT IN THIS COURSE!  Notice will be made approximately 2 weeks prior to start of course, DO NOT CONTACT THE ACADEMY OFFICE PRIOR TO THEN
  • Course enrollment will be strictly limited to thirty (30) students NO EXCEPTIONS
  • Placement is NOT on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Agencies may be limited in enrollment to allow equal opportunity to this course. 
  • Out of county students must submit and out-of-county residency form to the academy prior to the start of the course.  Failure to do so will result in non-admittance to the course.
