COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Erie County Law Enforcement Training Academy (ECLETA), under the auspices of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), will hold a Radar / Lidar Operator Course. This course will train the participant in the use of a variety of radar/LIDAR speed detection instruments.
TOPIC AREAS:
- Radar and Lidar theory
- NYS Vehicle & Traffic law
- Court preparation and presentation
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
- Patrol vehicle equipped with a radar unit and tuning forks.
- One handheld Lidar unit
GRADUATION REQUIREMENT:
- 90% attendance (students are allowed to miss 10% of this course FOR GOOD REASON)
- 70% passing on a written examination
- Complete all required field exercises and speed estimates to within an average of +/- 5mph
PLEASE OBSERVE THE ACADEMY DRESS CODE:
- Police Uniform or business casual attire; blue jeans, T-shirts & sneakers are unacceptable!

- Course enrollment will be strictly limited to thirty (30) students NO EXCEPTIONS

- Agencies may be limited in enrollment to allow equal opportunity to this course.
- Out-of-county students must submit an out-of-county residency form before the start of this course; failure to do so will result in non-admittance to the course
