COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Erie County Law Enforcement Training Academy, under the auspices of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), is offering the DWI Detection & SFST Instructor Course. This MPTC-approved and DCJS-certified course provides police officers with the necessary tools to effectively teach the DWI Detection and SFST Course. Instruction includes a review of the SFST curriculum, guidelines for planning and managing live alcohol workshops, and techniques for delivering engaging presentations.

- Detection & General Deterrence
- The Legal Environment
- Overview of Detection, Note Taking & Testimony
- The 3 Phases of DWI Detection
- Concepts & Principles of the Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs)
- Processing the Arrested Subject, Report Writing & Preparation for Trial
- Alcohol Workshop

- Course enrollment will be strictly limited to ten (10) students, NO EXCEPTIONS
- Placement is NOT on a first-come, first-served basis, and priority will be given to full-time police agencies located within Erie County.
- Agencies may be limited in enrollment to allow equal opportunity to this course.
