Council Structure

Full Council

The Full Council is composed of 15-21 members with a mixture of appointed and stakeholder seats. The appointed seats represent government and municipal agencies whereas the stakeholder seats represent all sectors of the food system.

Standing Committees

The full Council is further broken down into permanent committees designed to enhance the function of the FPC. Committees consist only of Council members, who are required to sit on at least one committee.

  • Executive: Consists of FPC Officers and are accountable for setting direction and managing the operations of the FPC.
  • Governance: Accountable for establishing bylaws and operational guidance while developing a recruitment and onboarding subcommittee.
  • Action Planning Committee: Manages policy proposals and responses, and oversees the implementation of the Local Food Action Plan objectives.

Working Groups

Working groups are temporary groups consisting of Council members are community stakeholders designed to focus on a specific food system issue or community need. Current working groups include:

  • Greater Buffalo Urban Growers: Network of urban producers and agriculture professionals advocating for better urban production policies and promoting safe soil health practices for eating and growing in city environments. 
  • Outreach: Accountable for building strategic relationships with other organizations, FPC committees, and efforts in the community. 
  • Emergency Food: Advocate for increased preparation and distribution of emergency food supplies.
