The Buffalo and Erie County Food Policy Council (FPC) is seeking community-minded individuals to serve on the Council. If you are interested in advising Erie County on food policy issues and serving as a liaison between the community and County government, consider applying below.
Applications are now accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. You may submit your application at any time. New members are approved every January 1 and July 1.
You must be an Erie County resident to apply. Council members are beholden to County Ethics and the FPC Conflict of Interest Policy.
The Council’s mission is to build and strengthen a sustainable and just regional food system by advising Erie County on food policy. In 2020, the FPC released the Local Food Action Plan and has been actively working on implementation. The Council is comprised of both appointed and stakeholder seats. The Council maintains both standing committees and working groups to address food system issues. For more information, visit the FPC Council structure page.
Members serve three-year terms. The Council meets in-person on the last Wednesday of each month from 4-5pm. All members are expected to attend monthly meetings in-person. There is no virtual option. In addition, Council members are required to serve on a working group or committee, which meet outside of standard Council meetings, at the discretion of the working group or committee. The monthly commitment of time is approximately 8 hours.
New members will be provided on-boarding materials and invited to attend an informal meeting before joining the Council. Once new members are on the Council, they can vote.
