Federal agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, medical societies like the American Academy of Pediatrics, and municipalities like Erie County all agree: gun violence is a public health crisis. For families and communities, the short-term and long-term impacts of gun violence are devastating, causing pain, disability, trauma and grief.
Social and economic inequities are root causes of gun violence. There is no one solution to our community crisis. Change requires a comprehensive set of policies and initiatives to stop cycles of gun violence in impacted communities.
