COURSE DESCRIPTION:This one-day course is designed for Police Field Training Officers (FTOs) to enhance their ability to coach recruits in handling mental health-related calls. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of mental health crisis dynamics, learn proven communication and de-escalation strategies, review legal and policy considerations, and learn about resources to utilize when responding to mental health calls.

The training includes scenario-based exercises and a Body-Worn Camera (BWC) video evaluation session, where FTOs will assess an officer’s performance during a real mental health call using a structured rubric. This hands-on approach ensures FTOs can provide effective, constructive feedback to recruits in the field.
