Administrative Assistant – Public Works – Position’s # 51017047 & # 137 *Permanent
Rath Building Mon-Fri Days
Starting Annual Salary: $50,384 (CSEA Job Grade 9)

The Erie County Department of Public Works Utilities and Highways Divisions are seeking two individuals for work that involves assisting the administrative staff in the daily operation of the business and financial aspects of the department. Incumbents supervise and participate in personnel matters, budget preparation, and control activity, preparation and maintenance of financial records, and preparation of reports and special assignments. Work is performed under the general supervision of higher-level administrative staff. Supervision is exercised over lower level professional and clerical staff. Does related work as required.
- Assigns and supervises the work of a business office;
- Assists in supervising maintenance personnel;
- Supervises and participates in preparing and maintaining financial, statistical, personnel, and other records;
- Supervises and participates in the preparation of financial statements;
- Reviews activities analyses and reports;
- Advises on the development of office procedures and controls;
- Works with supervisor to plan basic property maintenance, care and operations programs;
- Confers with Purchasing Department regarding costs and delivery of supplies and equipment;
- Meets with sales representatives of supply and equipment companies;
- Assists in compiling the annual budget, develops necessary supporting data;
- Assists in the public relations aspects of the department by preparing news releases.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years of business or office experience, at least one (1) year of which was in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of business or office experience, at least one (1) year of which was in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or:
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), and (B).
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
