Shift:                                      Full Time – Will be required to take civil service exam when announced 

                                                Monday- Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

Starting Annual Salary:  24.42/hour / 50,839 annually

Who we are looking for:

Erie County is looking for a resourceful, dependable, and hard-working individual for the position of Assistant Community Recreation Coordinator for the Aging within the department of Senior Services.  If you like coordinating and administering events, then this job is for you! We are continually expanding and adapting our services and striving to improve how we deliver them to the older adults in our community.  

This position is responsible for assisting in the coordination of virtual and on-site recreational activities, events and programs in the community for the aging population of Erie County. This individual will assist the Coordinator and partners in the community with obtaining the appropriate tools, equipment, and knowledge regarding the administration of programs sponsored by Erie County Senior Services which may include the ability to work in an on-air media setting across a diverse constituency. Does related work required. 

What qualities are we looking for?

  • Good knowledge of modern recreational theory and practice for aging community
  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and organizational structure of Erie County Senior Services and its partners 
  • Ability to develop, organize, plan, and implement virtual and in person programs and events 
  • Willingness and ability to train partners in the community 
  • Good knowledge of use of media products 
  • Willingness to learn and successfully operate associated software systems
  • Effective communication skills 
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Does related work if required.

What are the typical work activities?

  • Assists in the Coordination, development and administration of in-person and virtual recreation programs and activities at individual senior/community center locations throughout Erie County, including but not limited to virtual/in person entertainment, educational programs, competitions, health, wellness and safety programs for the aging. 
  • May work with senior/community center staff, organizations for the aging and municipalities to create recreational in person and virtual activities/programs/events as well relevant content to live stream, broadcast and host using the Senior App/TV network throughout Erie County. 
  • Participates in the training of site staff and volunteers on the administration of activities, events and programs for the aging as well as in the operation of necessary technical/media equipment at various community locations. 
  • May assist in troubleshooting technical difficulties with audio/video room equipment and working with IT staff to resolve matters in a timely and effective matter to ensure smooth program administration. 
  • May assist in the coordination of staff and volunteers throughout the community to ensure program, activity and or event administration runs smoothly. 
  • May participate in virtual, digital and in-person promotion of new and existing older adult programs through collaboration with local partners, Erie County departments and other community organizations. 
  • Assists in the preparation of necessary reports and data compilations that identify program attendance, participant feedback, and monitors budgeting/expenses for program administration.

Minimum qualifications:

Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in health and Wellness, Human Services, Education, Recreation, Communications or related field and two (2) years of experience* in administering or developing community programs involving public contact. NOTE 1: *A Master’s Degree will be accepted in lieu of one (1) year experience in administering or developing community programs involving public contact.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT 

Possession of a NYS driver’s license required at the time of appointment. This position requires substantial travel; candidates must have a reliable vehicle available for use.
