Title of Position: Assistant County Attorney-Family Court Division (Full-Time Permanent)
Department: Erie County Attorney’s Office – General Counsel
Salary: $84,600.81 annually, plus benefits including membership in the New York State retirement system (pay automatically adjusted annually) Job Group XV
Shift: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Handle full caseload of JD petitions in Family Court at all stages of litigation including trial.
- Interact with police agencies, school districts, probation department, witnesses and social service agencies as each handle different aspects of the JD petition.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Erie County Department of Law (a/k/a the Erie County Attorney’s Office) is seeking an experienced attorney to work in its Family Court Division as an Assistant County Attorney. The County Attorney’s Office represents the County of Erie in Family Court prosecuting Juvenile Delinquents (JDs) and Persons in Need of Supervision (PINS). Family Court Counsel is responsible for reviewing and preparing JD petitions, summonses, motion responses, appellate briefs, subpoenas and Orders to Show Cause. Counsel provides a wide range of legal advice to police agencies, the Erie County Probation Department, school districts and community service providers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an approved school of law with a J.D. Degree and 3 years of experience in relevant area of practice.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Admission to the Bar in the State of New York.
