Department & Location: Erie County District Attorney, 25 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo

Title of Position: Assistant Crime Analyst, Job Group XII (1 position) 

Shift: Provisional, Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

 Starting Annual Salary: *$66,277 (for new county employees) *$66,277-$84,741 (for current county employees) *(as of January 1, 2024)

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: 

  • Reviews, designs and implements forms, procedures and agency interactions in regard to evaluating the present and future needs of the District Attorney’s grant reporting and in-house statistical requirements; 
  • Monitors data input to insure integrity; 
  • Writes and maintains statistical procedure documentation; 
  • Meets with Chief to review recommendations, responsibilities, goals and effectiveness of existing procedures; 
  • Trains employees on the operation and data input requirements of our case tracking system; 
  • Advises chief of current trends and directions regarding criminal information systems, evaluating and recommending equipment and implementing strategies; 
  • Maintains effective communications with data processing supervisor and attorneys to assure correct input and output reporting; 
  •  Assists Bureau Chief in the installation and trouble-shooting of equipment as required; 
  • Makes recommendations for enhancement of current procedures and for problem solving;
  •  Works with county data processing personnel as required. 

PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of data base development, design, utilization, data retrieval, analysis and reporting; Good knowledge of the technique and procedures involved in the prosecution of criminal cases; Good knowledge of current trends in Criminal Justice Information Systems; Skill in training staff and producing training aids and guides; Ability to detect, analyze and resolve problems in information systems; Ability to assist in the planning and development of agency objectives, programs and goals; Ability to prepare accurate and concise reports; Ability to supervise a professional and clerical staff; Sound professional judgment; Dependability; Excellent writing skills; Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites; Proficient in creating and modifying reports using Crystal Reports and Microsoft Access; Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

A.) Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or related technical field directly related to the general management, development, and implementation of data processing information systems; or; 

B.) Possession of an Associate’s degree and five (5) years of experience in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or related technical field directly related to the general management, development, and implementation of data processing information systems; or; 

C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B). 

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
