*Candidate must have taken the Assistant Director-Special Needs Division Civil Service Exam that was held on March 1, 2025. 

**Please note that this position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree* in Education, Special Education, Speech Language Pathology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, or closely related field and three (3) years of experience in a public or private agency working with developmentally delayed children and their families which included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

New York State driver’s license required. Since the position requires substantial travel, candidates must demonstrate the ability to meet transportation needs of the job in carrying out their responsibilities in any location to which travel is required, including some not accessible by public transportation.

Section 424-a of Social Service Law requires the local social service district to inquire whether the applicant is the subject of an indicated child abuse or maltreatment report on file with the State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. 

NOTE 1: *Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.  NOTE 2: The age limits for infants and toddlers for early intervention is defined as being from birth to three (3) years old Pre-K is considered three (3) – five (5) years and PHCP covers children till 21 years of age. 

NOTE 3: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full time experience requirements.
