Assistant Supervising Maintenance Mechanic HVAC – Position # 51017984 - Permanent

503 Kensington Mon-Fri 7am-3pm

Starting Annual Salary: $53,015 (Job grade 10)

The Erie County Department of Public Works Buildings and Grounds Division is seeking an individual for a position involving assisting in the supervision of, and participation in, the repair and maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and appliances for buildings. Work is performed under the supervision of an administrative or maintenance employee of higher rank. Supervision is exercised over a number of maintenance mechanics and helpers in the performance of maintenance and repair of activities. Does related work as required.

  • Assists with supervision of HVAC work projects such as steam and heating water piping, accessories and controls, air handling units, pumps, air distribution, filtration and controls, refrigeration equipment and appliances and automatic temperature control systems by estimating and planning needs, laying out work and inspecting results;
  • Directs the installation and repair of rooftop, refrigeration and ultra-low units, ice machines, refrigerators and freezer units;
  • Assigns mechanics, helpers and laborers to projects, assists them with difficult problems and evaluates performance;
  • Maintains records of projects, requisitions supplies and confers with supervisor on status and progress of work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Elementary education and five years of HVAC and refrigeration experience at the journeyman level, including skilled work with tools, test equipment and mechanical appliances, rooftop, refrigeration and ultra-low units, ice machines, refrigerators and freezer units.                 

NOTE 1:

 Possession of a Universal EPA Refrigerant Handler certificate required at time of permanent appointment.

NOTE 2:

Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
