TITLE OF POSITION:                  CASE ASSISTANT-SOCIAL SERVICES 

LOCATION:                                   TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE -RATH BUILDING 

JOB GROUP:                                  JG 6 (STARTING ANNUAL SALARY:  $46,627)

The work involves assisting Caseworkers and Child Protective Workers in the performance of duties, which involve the coordinating of visits between children in foster care or placed with kin and their parents and siblings. The incumbent may provide transportation and/or supervision for the visits. The incumbent is responsible for orienting parents, foster parents and caretakers to the purpose, goals and content of visitation and to assist them in making visits beneficial to the child. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher-ranking employee and involves other casework/CPS related duties, as appropriated and directed. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

A.) Completion of sixty (60) semester credit hours of study at a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) or four (4) year college or university; or: 

B.) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years experience coordinating a social service program, to include interviewing applicants, assisting in the determination for eligibility, and updating and maintaining case files; or:

C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B). 

 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

1. Possession of a valid New York State Driver’s License at time of permanent appointment. 

2. Section 424-a of the Social Services Law requires the local social services district to inquire whether the applicant is the subject of an indicated child abuse or maltreatment report on file with the State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment.

Candidates must take the Civil Service Exam to be held at a later date.

Candidates must be reachable by score once the list is established in order to maintain the position.
