Title of Position: Community Recreation Coordinator for the Aging
Shift: Full Time – Will be required to take civil service exam when announced
Monday- Friday 8:30am-4:30pm
Starting Annual Salary: $57,304 / $27.550 per hour

Erie County is looking for a resourceful, dependable, and hard-working individual for the position of Community Recreation Coordinator for the Aging within the department of Senior Services. The work involved coordinating virtual and on-site recreational activities, events, and programs in the community. You would be responsible for development, coordination, and administration of such activities and programs throughout Erie County Community centers and congregate dining sites. This individual will also be responsible for the technical creation and coordination of creative virtual content and programs across multiple centers and congregate dining sites which includes the ability to work in an on-air media setting across a diverse constituency. Supervision is exercised by lower-level staff in the area of recreation for the aging. Does related work as required.

What are the typical work activities?
- Consults with senior/community center staff, organizations for the aging and municipalities to create recreational in person and virtual activities/programs/events as well relevant content to live stream, broadcast and host using the Senior App/TV network throughout Erie County.
- Coordinates, develops, and administrates in-person and virtual recreation programs and activities at individual senior/community center locations throughout Erie County, including but not limited to virtual/in-person entertainment, educational programs, competitions, health, wellness and safety programs for the aging.
- Responsible to train participating site staff and volunteers on the administration of activities, events and programs for the aging as well as in the operation of necessary technical/media equipment at various community locations.
- Trouble shoot technical difficulties with audio/video room equipment and works with IT staff to resolve matters in a timely and effective matter to ensure smooth program administration.
- Directs and supervises the work of the Assistant Community Recreation Coordinator for the Aging.
- Interacts with activity and program participants and staff to identify new/future program content.
- Participates in virtual, digital and in-person promotion of new and existing older adult programs through collaboration with local partners, Erie County departments and other community organizations.
- Prepares necessary reports that identify program attendance, participant feedback, and monitors budgeting/expenses for program administration.
- Monitors reports and data to measure program performance, efficiency, and analyzes data for potential future changes or improvements to programs, activities, or events.
Minimum qualifications:
Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Wellness, Human Services, Education, Recreation, Communications or related field and three (3) years of experience* in administering or developing community programs involving public contact; one year of which must have involved the administration of programs, recreational activities or events for the aging/senior population.
NOTE 1: *A Master’s Degree will be accepted in lieu of one (1) year experience in administering or developing community programs involving public contact.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of a NYS driver’s license required at the time of appointment. This position requires substantial travel; candidates must have a reliable vehicle available for use.
