About the Role
The Erie County Division of Equal Employment Opportunity is seeking a dedicated EEO Investigator to conduct investigations into complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. The successful candidate will gather facts, conduct interviews, review documentation, and prepare detailed reports while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local EEO laws. This position works under the direct supervision of the Director of Equal Employment Opportunity and supports broader EEO program initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough investigations, including interviews, document review, and evidence analysis.
- Prepare investigative plans and detailed written reports outlining findings and conclusions.
- Maintain secure and confidential case files, logs, and records.
- Assist in developing and implementing EEO policies, programs, and training initiatives.
- Prepare statistical analyses, summary reports, and compliance documentation for state and federal reporting.
- Attend meetings and participate in community outreach efforts as directed.
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of equal employment laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
- Experience conducting confidential investigations and analyzing evidence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software.
- Experience working with diverse populations and handling sensitive EEO matters.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications:
A. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) year of experience in conducting investigations, social science research, or EEO-related work.
B. Associate degree (60 semester credit hours) and three (3) years of relevant experience.
C. High school diploma (or equivalent) and five (5) years of relevant experience.
D. An equivalent combination of training and experience as outlined above.
Salary Range:
- New Employees: $52,364
- Current Employees: $52,364 - $65,547
Important Civil Service Information
Please note: This position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.
