TITLE OF POSITION: Forensic Mental Health Specialist I - Children

SHIFT: Monday – Friday, Days
SALARY: Starts at $55,636 Annually

and attain a score that is reachable under NYS civil service law. *
This is an entrance level professional forensic mental health position serving children. The position will have the responsibility for providing direct mental health assessment, triage, linkage, monitoring and / or service coordination to children with PINS or Juvenile Delinquency status and / or Family Court involvement. The work is carried out in accordance with established procedures, with leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment. The work also includes providing consultation to and service coordination with Children’s System of Care Partners and other community stakeholders and the families of Children engaged in the System of Care (SOC). Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-ranking administrative employee, with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, Rehabilitation Counseling, Education, or closely related field and one (1) year of experience working with Seriously Emotionally Disturbed Children.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
New York State Department of Education licensure as a Social Worker or Mental Health Counselor at time of appointment.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and / or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
Candidates must be legal residents of Erie County at the time of Provisional appointment,
for at least one month immediately preceding the date of the written test, AND
at the time of Permanent appointment.
