DEPARTMENT:                    HEALTH

LOCATION:                          ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH; 503 KENSINGTON AVE, BUFFALO                                         

SHIFT:                                   8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

TITLE OF POSITION:          INVESTIGATING PUBLIC HEALTH SANITARIAN (PROVISIONAL*)

POSITION NUMBER:            #51009860 & #51013157 (2 Positions) 

ANNUAL SALARY:     $50,839 – 63,638 (Job Grade 08; during training will be Job Grade 07 Starting as $47,942)

*Please note that this position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 A) Possession of a Bachelor’s degree, including or supplemented by 30 semester credit hours in the physical or biological sciences and/or relevant applied sciences. Up to 12 credit hours in the applied sciences listed below may be credited toward the required 30 hours. In addition, candidates must have completed a one (1) year training program and completion of a training course approved by the New York State Health Department; or:

 B) Five (5) years of experience as a Public Health Technician and completion of a training course approved by the New York State Health Department.

NOTE: Physical and biological sciences include courses in organic and inorganic chemistry, qualitative and quantitative analyses, biochemistry, astronomy, meteorology, geology, hydrology, earth science, physics, biology, microbiology, botany, zoology and other related courses containing the study of living organisms. Relevant applied sciences include science-based courses in environmental technology, sanitation technology, forensic investigation, medical technology, public health, and infection control and food science.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Candidates must possess a valid New York State Driver License and have automotive transportation available for use at the time of appointment.

 

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
