ERIE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PERSONNEL
Junior Personnel Specialist*
Salary Range: $55,636 - $70,637 Annually
The Erie County Department of Personnel is seeking an individual to performing entry level professional technical personnel work in connection with the administration of a County Personnel Department. The primary areas of responsibility include position classification, examination administration, and benefit/payroll administration. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Personnel Specialist or Senior Personnel Specialist.
- Drafts or revises job descriptions for titles within assigned departments/jurisdictions for approval by supervisor;
- Assists in the administration of Civil Service Law; Provides information to departments/municipalities regarding personnel policies and procedures and Civil Service regulations;
- Contacts departmental representatives regarding the interpretation of rules, questions of procedures, and technical problems;
- Reviews and approves appointments and other personnel actions;
- Writes or revises class specifications to reflect key elements of positions, level of work, and differentiation from other classes;
- Reviews qualifications of applicants against class specifications for admittance into examinations;
- Assists in scheduling, monitoring, ordering, and other aspects of examination administration;
- Conducts salary and fringe benefit surveys; prepares reports and correspondence on studies;
- Keeps abreast of latest developments in the field through meetings and readings.
*Please note that this position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of professional level work experience involving personnel or human resource administration.
