DEPARTMENT: Central Police Services

LOCATION: 45 Elm Street

SHIFT: 9 AM – 5 PM                                       

TITLE OF POSITION: Junior Programmer Analyst

STARTING SALARY: $66,219 - $84,013 (CSEA Job Grade – 11)

* This position is classified within the competitive class of the New York State Civil Service system and, as such, is subject to the examination and appointment requirements prescribed by Civil Service Law. Permanent appointment will be contingent upon the candidate’s success in a future civil service examination and subsequent placement on the resulting eligible list. Being reachable on the eligible list does not guarantee permanent appointment. Appointments will be made in accordance with the New York State Civil Service Law, including the Rule of Three.*

The work involves assisting in gathering and analyzing information used to develop and modify data processing systems. The incumbent assists in designing and formulating new systems and guides their installation. The incumbent also assists in the evaluation of operational systems and recommends improvements. Work is performed under the direct supervision of higher level technical and administrative employees. Supervision may be exercised over lower-level technical employees. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Possession of a bachelor's degree and one (1) year of data processing experience in programming and systems development; or:

B. Possession of an associate's degree in data processing or computer science and two (2) years of data processing experience, at least one (1) year of which was in programming and systems development; or:

C. Satisfactory completion of a certified course in computer programming as offered by a New York State approved technical training institute and two (2) years of data processing experience, at least one (1) year of which was in programming and systems development; or:

D. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of electronic data processing experience, at least one (1) year of which was in programming and systems development; or:

E. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (D) above.
