Junior Project Engineer Construction – Public Works* - Position # 51017680 - Provisional

Starting Annual Salary: $ 53,496 (CSEA Job Grade 10)

The Erie County Department of Public Works Buildings and Grounds division is seeking an individual for work which involves assisting in the coordination of County construction projects to help assure conformance with construction contract drawings and specifications. This is a technical position responsible for assisting with the design and in the overall coordination of construction activities for Building and Grounds. Supervision is received from higher level technical, professional and administrative employees of the division. Supervision may be exercised over lower level technical and labor class employees. Does related work as required.
- Assists the Project Engineer-Public Works and other DPW Building and Grounds technical staff in the preparation and review of drawings, specifications, estimates and other contract documents related to a construction projects to ensure conformance with County Department of Public Works policies and procedures;
- Assist and/or oversee construction activities to assure adherence to plans, schedules, specifications, contracts and standards of good workmanship;
- Prepare designs and contract documents under the supervision of a licensed professional;
- Assists DPW Building and Grounds technical staff and/or manages construction projects in coordination with the outside assigned architectural/ engineering firm as well as the awarded contractors for a given project;
- Assists in resolving problems arising during construction for contract compliance;
- Assists in reviewing estimates for payment and approval of work and standards for acceptance;
- Prepares reports on construction progress and cost estimates;
- Assists and/or maintains up to date records/ as-built drawings for future reference/ County record;
- Assists with compliance with applicable NYS Building Codes
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or construction related field and two (2) years of experience in the field of
construction, design, planning and/or project management; or:
B) Completion of a minimum sixty (60) semester hours at a regionally accredited or New York State registered
college or university which includes 24 semester credit hours in engineering or construction related field and
four (4) years’ experience in the field of construction, design, planning and/or project management; or:
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid NY State driver's license;
- Certification as a Code Enforcement Official through the New York Department of State (NYDOS) within
one year of appointment and maintenance throughout.
