**PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT – AWAITING EXAM**

TITLE OF POSITION:   JUNIOR SANITARY ENGINEER (Provisional*)

LOCATION:                   95 FRANKLIN STREET, BUFFALO, NY 14202

SALARY (2024):              $57,304 – $72,756

*Please note that these positions are competitive civil service titles and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: 

The work involves performing beginning level professional sanitary engineering work, in the office or field, in connection with the design, inspection, maintenance or construction of sanitary engineering projects. The incumbent carries out complex technical duties and applies the principles of sanitary engineering to a variety of engineering problems, either as a regular assignment or as a training experience. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher ranking engineering employee. Supervision may be exercised over a small, number of sub-professional or labor class employees. Does related work as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A) Possession of a Bachelor's degree* in Civil, Sanitary, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering; or: 

B) Possession of a Bachelor’s degree* in Engineering and one year of experience in the Civil, Sanitary, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering field; or: 

C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of experience in the Civil, Sanitary, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering field; or:

 D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

 

 NOTE 1: *Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. NOTE 2: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
