 TEMPORARY

DEPARTMENT:                        SOCIAL SERVICES/YOUTH SERVICES

TITLE OF POSITION:             JUVENILE JUSTICE COUNSELOR* (Pos. #51010682)      

LOCATION:                              YOUTH DETENTION CENTER; 810 E. Ferry St., Buffalo

SHIFT:            MONDAY-WEDNESDAY 1:00 PM-9:00 PM & SATURDAY-SUNDAY 11:30 AM -7:30 PM, 

          OFF THURSDAY & FRIDAY                 

JOB GROUP/SALARY:              $27.550/HR (JG 10)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A.) Possession of a Master’s Degree** in relevant Human Services program and two (2) years of experience working with at risk youths in a public or private agency adhering to acceptable standards; or;

B.) Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree** in relevant Human Services program and four (4) years of experience working with at risk youths in a public or private agency adhering to acceptable standards; or;

C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of  (A) and (B)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Candidates must:

  • Section 424-a of the Social Services Law requires the local social services district to inquire whether the applicant is the subject of an indicated child abuse or maltreatment report on file with the State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment.
  • All potential employees for this position will be required to sign the necessary clearance form prior to being advised that they will be hired. Refusal to sign will be cause for an automatic non-selection.
  • Subject to background investigation and fingerprinting for appointment. (Applicant may be required to submit the necessary fees for the fingerprint processing.)
  • As required by law or statute, subject to medical examination including tuberculin (TB) test, at time of appointment and throughout period of employment when assigned to Youth Services.      

NOTE 1: *Per resolution (see L-2023-339 Item #1.7) presented to State Civil Service Commission on January 17, 2024, action approved and filed with the Department of State on January 24, 2024, under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program this title is temporarily re-assigned to NON-COMPETITIVE Classification. 

NOTE 2: **Your degree/credits must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. NOTE 3: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
