Title of Position: Laboratory Information Management System Coordinator (RPT), Job Group IX (Jan 1, 2024 - 1 position) 

Starting Annual Salary: $53,972 (for new county employees) $53,972-$68,203 (for current county employees)

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Maintains current Laboratory Information Systems protocols and analyzes the existing procedures in order to develop improvements; Coordinates and maintains operations of laboratory information database and monitors to ensure database integrity and regulatory compliance; Participates in preparing and maintaining technical documents related to laboratory operations; Reviews activities, analyses and reports; Works with supervisor to plan basic property maintenance, care and operations program; Meets with outside vendors and clients, primarily LIMS software contractor and PHL clients; Performs office duties and laboratory support duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System and administrative principles, procedures, and techniques; Good knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment; Good knowledge of biology, chemistry, and biochemistry; Good knowledge of current information systems and computer processing hardware and software; Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense; Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions; Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing; Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand; Ability to develop and prepare comprehensive reports and maintain detailed records; Initiative; Resourcefulness; Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

A.)    Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, biotechnology, clinical laboratory sciences, public health, or a physical or biological science and one (1) year of experience in a clinical, environmental, and/or public health laboratory that included working with a laboratory information management system* (see Note 1); or

B.)    Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience in a clinical, environmental, and/or public health laboratory that included including working with a laboratory information management system; or

C.)    An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

NOTE 1: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a master’s degree in medical technology, biotechnology, clinical laboratory sciences, public health, or a physical or biological science may be substituted for one year of the required experience above.
