VACANCY NOTICE

DEPARTMENT:                                 CENTRAL POLICE SERVICES FORENSIC LAB

TITLE OF POSITION:                       LATENT PRINT EXAMINER 1

LOCATION and HOURS:                  45 ELM STREET. Part-time, up to 20hrs/week

HOURLY WAGE:                              $25.94/hr - $30.068/hr as a trainee

                                                             $27.550/hr - $34.979/hr fully trained               

Latent Print Examiners perform a variety of technical and professional tasks associated with analyzing, searching, comparing, evaluating, and verifying latent print case evidence developed at crime scenes in accordance with Latent Print Laboratory policies and procedures established under ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) accreditation requirements. They use specialized systems such as the New York State Statewide Automated Biometric Identification System (SABIS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Universal Latent Workstation (ULW) to access the FBI Next Generation Identification (NGI) Database for latent print comparisons and identifications.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

 Possession of a Bachelor's degree** or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Forensic Science, or Criminalistics, AND completion of two-years’ experience as a Latent Print Examiner 1 / Trainee*.         

Note 1: *For Traineeship appointments* Trainees will be at a underfill status of Job Grade 9 and must possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Forensic Science, or Criminalistics at time of appointment AND then must follow with the completion of a two-year traineeship to achieve full status as a Latent Print Examiner 1, Job Grade 10. 

NOTE 2: **Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation fee.
