TITLE OF POSITION: Peer Navigator – Substance Abuse (PROVISONAL)
LOCATION: One Niagara Plaza, Buffalo, NY 14202
JOB GROUP: 3- $38,405 - $49,042
WORK SCHEDULE: MONDAY-FRIDAY; 8:30AM-4:30PM OR 9:00AM-5:00PM
**Please note that this position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience working in a health care setting or substance use treatment agency.
NOTE 1: Completion of 30 credit hours from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university in a health-related field can be substituted for the 1-year experience.
NOTE 2: Candidates must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License and have automotive transportation available for use at the time of appointment. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
NOTE 3: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Develops plans to locate at risk persons;
- Penetrates and identifies key players and/or gatekeepers within specific social networks.
- Develops and utilizes interventions that are personalized, client-oriented, and appropriate to client; needs and readiness to access services;
- In collaboration with the client, develops risk reduction plan for initiating/sustaining safer behaviors;
- Provides treatment education and adherence support;
- Provides referrals to care and support services (e.g. housing, social services, primary care, substance abuse treatment) and assists the client in accessing/utilizing those services;
- Acts as an advocate on behalf of the client.
