Distinguishing Features of the Class

The work involves assisting the NYS Certified Instructor Coordinator and NYS Certified Lab Instructor guiding students through the practical skills training and final evaluation of the NYS Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and/or NYS Certified First Responder courses. The incumbent is a part-time employee of the Erie County Health Department, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division. Work is performed under the supervision of an Erie County EMS NYS Certified Instructor Coordinator and/or Erie County EMS NYS Certified Lab Instructor. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities

  • Assists the Instructor/Coordinator and Certified Lab Instructor with the evaluation and testing of practical skills in the emergency medical training courses;
  • Acts as an objective evaluator for the practical skills examinations, adhering to the NYS-EMS policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience providing emergency medical services with a NYS certified EMS agency or public health emergency preparedness agency.

Special Requirements

Possession of a NYS EMT certification or a Basic Life Support Instructor certification as issued by the American Heart Association at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.

Certain positions may be subject to additional background screening based on statutory or regulatory requirements.

Remote Work Eligibility

This position is not eligible for remote work under any circumstances. The duties of this role require full-time, on-site presence.
