Project Engineer Construction – Public Works* - Position # 51018252 - Provisional

Starting Annual Salary: $ 71,710 (CSEA Job Grade 13)

The Erie County Department of Public Works Buildings and Grounds division is seeking an individual for work which involves administering County building construction projects to assure work performed conforms to contract specifications, workmanship standards, and established schedules. This is engineering and architectural work involving the inspection, monitoring, and management of construction projects. Incumbents are expected to be on site inspecting construction and consulting with architects, engineers, and contractors regarding adherence to specifications and change orders. Supervises lower level inspectors assisting in related activities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Senior Construction Project Manager. Does related work as required.
- Supervises and evaluates subordinate inspectors;
- Inspects on-site building construction to assure adherence to plans, schedules, specifications, contracts, and standards of good workmanship;
- Consults with engineers, architects, contractors, and other officials involving changes and modifications of plans and specifications;
- Resolves problems arising during inspection for contract compliance;
- Reviews and approves estimates for payment and approval of work and standard for acceptance;
- Prepares reports on construction progress and cost estimates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a standard senior high school and in addition either:
A) Possession of a Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or closely related field, supplemented by three (3) years of work experience in construction design or planning and supervision or management of building construction projects and construction inspection; or:
B) Seven (7) years of work experience in construction design or planning including three (3) years of supervision or management of building construction projects; and, construction inspection; or:
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid NY State driver's license;
- Certification as a Code Enforcement Official through the New York Department of State (NYDOS) within one year of appointment and maintenance throughout.
