PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATOR 

 DEPARTMENT:                                         HEALTH  (OFFICE OF HARM REDUCTION)

 LOCATION:                                             95 FRANKLIN STREET - OFFICE OF HARM REDUCTION

   SHIFT:                                                         8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

 SALARY :              $52,364-$65,547 (CSEA JOB GROUP 08)

*Please note that this position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A) Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a major in health education, or;

 B) Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in a health related or behavioral science* field, plus two (2) years of experience in health education, or;

 C) Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university plus a minimum of four (4) years experience in health education.

 NOTE: *Examples of acceptable degrees include Nursing, Speech Pathology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Nutrition/ Dietetics, and other closely related fields.

 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates must satisfactorily complete fifteen (15) hours of continuing education in health education related topics approved by New York State Health Department within one year of appointment.
  • Candidates and appointees must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver License and have automotive transportation available for use.

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
