*Please note that this position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three. 

The work involves providing health education services that are culturally-sensitive and serve to increase health literacy in ethnically and gender diverse populations of Erie County. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a Project Coordinator-Health Equity or administrator of higher rank. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Organizes and works with community groups and directs educational efforts to influence public attitudes and behavior with regard to given health needs;
  • Participates in studies and surveys of public health education needs in the community and evaluates the materials and methods used to determine the effectiveness of the program;
  • Assists in planning and directing workshops, institutes forums and discussions groups to promote public health and health education among marginalized population or within diverse constituencies within Erie County;
  • Assists in researching, writing, implementing and managing grants for funding support of educational activities;
  • Writes, edits and proofreads health education materials such as fact sheets, pamphlets and brochures.                                           

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A.) Possession of a Bachelor's degree* with a major in health education, or;

 B.) Possession of a Bachelor's degree* and one (1) year of experience in health education, or;

 C.) Possession of an Associate degree* or 60 Semester college Credit hours and two (2) years of experience in health education, or:

D.) An equivalent combination of education and experience of as defined by the limits of A, B or C above.

1. *Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must satisfactorily complete fifteen (15) hours of continuing education in health education related topics approved by New York State Health Department within one year of appointment.

Candidates and appointees must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver License and have automotive transportation available for use.

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
