The work involves performing moderately complex secretarial and general clerical work in the Erie County Executive.s office. The incumbent performs a variety of clerical and/or stenographic duties of a confidential or semi-confidential nature. Work is performed in accordance with standard procedures with some degree of latitude for the exercise of independent judgment. Work is performed under the direct supervision of higher-ranking secretarial and administrative staff. Supervision may be exercised over lower level clerical staff. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Performs secretarial and clerical duties such as data entry, typing reports, lectures and notices; answers mail;
- Composes letters to other departments and outside agencies, compiles statistics of departmental activities and maintains files on current employees; attends meetings and takes minutes of same;
- Assists in the preparation of budgets, financial reports and maintains records of budget and personnel change approvals;
- Confers with higher-ranking employees and participates in discussions about personnel and administrative policies;
- Operates office machines;
- Gives directional information, refers callers and makes appointments;
- Takes and transcribes confidential dictation for supervisors;
- Keeps confidential files and records and accounts;
- Collects and verifies data; compiles reports for review by supervisor;
- Does general office work involving tabulation of figures, filing, reports and data; completion of forms;
- Opens and directs departmental mail;
- Exercises supervision or partial supervision over one or more clericals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of satisfactory business or office experience which included supervisory responsibilities
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
