Senior Cashier 

DEPARTMENT:             PROBATION

TITLE OF POSITION:     Senior Cashier (Probation) (PROVISIONAL*)

SALARY:    $47,942- $66,238 (CSEA JOB GROUP: 7)
WORK SCHEDULE:      MONDAY-FRIDAY; 8:30AM-4:30PM

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The work involves supervising and participating in the receiving and recording of cash, credit card, and checks payments. This class differs from that of Cashier by virtue of the more difficult and varied nature of the work performed and by independent judgement exercised by the incumbent in the application of established procedures and methods. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-ranking administrative employee. Acts as a lead worker for a team of cashiers and may exercise limited supervision over a small number of Cashiers or clerical staff. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of general office experience, at least one (1) year of which must have been in customer service or a similar role involving public interaction that included handling cash and financial transactions; or: 

B) Six (6) years of general office experience, at least two (2) years of which must have been in customer service or a similar role involving public interaction that included handling cash and financial transactions; or: 

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES:

Supervises a small number of employees engaged in taking in and receipting for cash, credit card, and check payments on accounts; 

Reviews the routine work of the cashier who posts payments to cash received journals, prepares and lists deposits, endorses checks for deposits; 

Directs the disbursements of checks and vouchers in payment of expenditures; 

Computer collection, disbursements and bank reconciliation reports; 

Receives, disburses and maintains records of a petty cash fund, and postage stamp accounts; 

Prepares periodic and special statistical analysis and reports; 

May respond to more complex questions from internal and external customers to the Department; 

May inspect legal papers and documents required in the daily operation of this office; 

May operate office machines such as computers, calculators, bookkeeping and check writing machines.
