SENIOR DIRECTOR OF YOUTH BUREAU

DEPARTMENT:                  SOCIAL SERVICES/YOUTH SERVICES

TITLE OF POSITION:         SENIOR DIRECTOR OF YOUTH BUREAU – SOCIAL SERVICES – FULL TIME POS. #51015151 - PROVISIONAL*

LOCATION:                         YOUTH DETENTION, 810 EAST FERRY, BUFFALO, NY 14211

SHIFT:                                 MONDAY- FRIDAY 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

SALARY:                            STARTING ANNUAL SALARY:  $79,140 (CSEA Job grade 14)  

*Please note that this position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

Possession of a Master’s degree** in social work supplemented by two (2) years of experience in the administration of a human services program plus two (2) years of experience working with youth in a public or private setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Section 424-a of the Social Services Law requires the local social services district to inquire whether the applicant is the subject of an indicated child abuse or maltreatment report on file with the State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. 

All potential employees for this position will be required to sign the necessary clearance form prior to being advised that they will be hired. Refusal to sign will be cause for an automatic non-selection. 

Subject to background investigation and fingerprinting for appointment. (Applicant may be required to submit the necessary fees for the fingerprint processing.) 

As required by law or statute, subject to medical examination including tuberculin (TB) test, at time of appointment and throughout period of employment when assigned to Youth Services. 

NOTES:

1. *Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation fee. 

2. **The NYS Office of Children & Family Services approved a waiver for the period 07/01/2024 through 12/31/2024 allowing the Erie County Secure/Specialized Secure Detention to temporarily suspend the Licensed Master Social Work minimum requirement for the position of Senior Director of Youth Bureau-Social Services. As of 1/1/2025, this position will revert to the Revision May 2024 qualifications. 

2. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
