 VACANCY NOTICE

Tax Map Technician – **Provisional

The work involves the responsibility for accurately plotting and mapping original and changes in property lines on a tax map.  This is a technical position which requires the incumbent to review, maintain and update property transfer records, aerials, new sub- divisions, and other tax maps. The incumbent works under the direct supervision of a Senior Tax Map Technician and the Director of Real Property Services. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Maintains and updates plots and tax map changes using automated and digital data using computer aided drafting (CAD) software;

Maintains computer files for parcel ownership and geographic information updates; Generates new and upscaled maps from survey data;

Computes acreage involved in each change for information of assessors;

Checks and searches property records and tax maps to correctly identify parcels or portions intended for transfer of title;

Locates parcel information such as geographic location and property lines for abstractors, assessors, attorneys, realtors and others;

Interprets descriptions of conveyance shown on maps for information of assessors and property owners; Performs file checks to assist with the solution of mapping problems;

Confirms identity of property described on tax rolls and other records as assessed prior to adoption of tax map.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good knowledge of the practices and principles of drafting and surveying and the instruments used; working knowledge of mathematics, including plane geometry; working knowledge on maintaining tax maps in a digital environment; working knowledge of computer aided design; ability to correctly identify and transfer property lines to maps as described in deeds and legal documents; ability to understand and interpret complex oral and written information; good judgment; initiative; integrity; good address; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A.) Completion of 60 semester credit hours of study with a major in civil engineering, civil technology, architecture, architectural technology, drafting, computer aided drafting (CAD), industrial arts or closely related field; or:

B.) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience in real estate, surveying, drafting or sub-professional civil engineering work or C.A.D. drafting; or:

C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

NOTE:  Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

** Please note that this position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future.  After the exam, selection for permanent appointment will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.
