Starting Annual Salary: $ 62,419 (CSEA Job Grade 11)

The Erie County Department of Public Works Buildings and Grounds Division is seeking an individual for work involving planning, coordinating, and directing employee training and orientation programs for the Erie County Department of Public Works (DPW). The incumbent is responsible for the development of training and safety programs necessary to maintain the Department's overall level of efficiency and safety. The incumbent provides a wide range of instructional programs for new employees and all technical and supervisory staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of higher-ranking professional staff with latitude for the exercise of independent judgement regarding the development and conduct of training program. Supervision is exercised over clerical staff and technical staff receiving specialized instruction. Does related work as required.
- Plans, organizes, and directs employee training programs designed to improve job skills and orient and instruct employees;
- Confers with supervisors, staff and reviews and analyzes regulations to determine training programs needed;
- Plans new and special training classes and demonstrations, writes training material or adapts existing material to immediate needs; prepares and distributes pamphlets, memoranda, and manuals to be used as training aids;
- Researches and reviews existing material as well as new material, selects and edits training material, helps prepare new material deemed necessary;
- Schedules and arranges for lectures, demonstrations, and on the job training classes; orients new employees in county/Department policies, methods, and procedures;
- Instructs supervisors and staff in training methods and use of training materials, and assists other members of the department with specific training;
- Instructs employees relative to nature and hazards of equipment and materials, responsibilities of specific position, and Department’s safety rules; maintains up-to-date information on safety and OSHA requirements;
- Follows-up program and classes to evaluate effectiveness of training and determine revision of methods or materials;
- Maintains an accurate and up-to-date log on training and abilities of field staff;
- Handles all requirements of OSHA programs;
- May oversee and ensure the Department’s compliance and maintenance of required trainings, certifications, licensures and safety regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university, with a Bachelor's degree, and four (4) years of experience in a public works related field including 1 year in the coordination and implementation of various training programs.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
