Search for Spring Ephemerals ~Como Lake Park ~

10am

Location: Como Lake - Meeting Location: Shelter 11 (Previously Shelter 5, Boy Scout Shelter)

Spring ephemerals are fleeting wildflowers that bloom briefly in early spring, seizing the limited sunlight before the forest canopy shades them. Join Ranger Adam as we hike along Cayuga Creek to catch these flowers in bloom while they last!

· Meeting Location: Shelter 11 (Previously Shelter 5, Boy Scout Shelter)

· Duration: 1-2 hrs

· Elevation: Minimal elevation change

· Distance: Approximately 1 mile

· Trail Conditions: Trail is packed dirt with a potential for wet and muddy conditions

· Equipment Needed: N/a

· Other: No wheelchair accessibility, dogs are welcome on leash

“Mother” Nature ~Akron Falls Park ~

10am

Location: Akron Falls - Meeting Location: Akron Falls upper parking lot

Join Ranger Leanne on a hike that will teach you the importance of planet earth’s many mothers in nature. We will hike and learn how female animals care and raise their young in all of the different ecosystems. You do not need to be a mother to attend, this is a hike for all!

 

· Meeting Location: Akron Falls upper parking lot

· Duration: 1 hr

· Elevation: Slight elevation changes

· Trail Conditions: Potential for slippery conditions

· Equipment Needed: Decent hiking shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather

· Other: No stroller/wheelchair accessibility, dogs are welcome on a leash

Ellicott Creek Park History ~Ellicott Creek Park ~

Location: Ellicott Creek - Meeting Location: Ellicott Creek Park, Bark Park Parking Lot

Join Ranger Nikki for a walk in the past at Ellicott Creek Park. Starting on the Ellicott Island we will learn about the history of how the island was created and how this park came to be.

 

· Location: Ellicott Creek Park, Bark Park Parking Lot

· Duration: 1-2 hrs

· Elevation: Flat

· Surface Description: Mostly pavement

· Equipment Needed: Proper footwear

· Other: Dog friendly, strollers and wheelchair accessible. (Disclaimer- will be starting inside the dog park)

Ranger Meet and Greet w/ Smores! ~Sprague Brook Park ~

6pm

Location: Sprague Brook - Meeting Location: Upper camping loop between loops A and B

Come hangout with Ranger Greg at Sprague Brook Park and learn about the Ranger Program! Bring questions and Greg will try to bring answers! - Roast marshmallows, talk about your favorite camping gear, learn how to start a fire and more. This is a meet and great event so come and go as you please!

 

· Meeting Location: Upper camping loop between loops A and B

· Duration: 2.5 hrs

· Elevation: None

· Trail Conditions: Stationary event on a grassy area

· Equipment Needed: A good marshmallow roasting stick

· Other: Dog friendly, stroller and wheelchair accessible

Trails Day/ Pints in The Park ~ Emery Park ~

Location: Sprague Brook - Casino

Join us as we collaborate with 42 North Brewing to celebrate Trails Day! 

The Tap Trekker Truck will be serving a special centennial Pilsner to help kick off the Parks Centennial Celebration. Come enjoy live music, food trucks, commemorative swag, and outdoor vendors.

Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls ~Emery Park ~

10am

Location: Emery Park - Meeting Location: Fieldhouse Parking Lot

Join Ranger Stephanie for some waterfall fun! We will be traveling up one of Emery’s creeks to see a cascading waterfall from a point of view that we often don’t get to see. Along the way we will discuss aquatic invertebrates and their importance in the environment.

 

· Meeting Location: Fieldhouse Parking Lot

· Duration: 2-3 hrs

· Elevation: Significant elevation changes

· Surface Description: We will be walking in a creek so expect slippery rocks and wet conditions

· Equipment Needed: Come equipped with your 10 essentials, good waterproof boots, layers of clothing, hiking crampons if you have them and pole

· Other: No stroller or wheelchair accessibility. Please leave dogs at home!

The Buffalo River: Where it was, where it is, and where it is going ` Red Jacket Park ~

Location: Red Jacket Riverfront Natural Habitat Park - Location: Red Jacket River Front Park, Parking Lot

Head out with Ranger Nikki in one of our Pocket Parks to learn about the history of the Buffalo River over the years and how it has changed physically and environmentally. We will also focus on how the river has an effect on the keystone species that dominate our area.

 

· Location: Red Jacket River Front Park, Parking Lot

· Duration: 1-2 hrs

· Elevation: Some varied terrain; mostly flat

· Surface Description: Black top and grassy trail

· Equipment Needed: Proper footwear

· Other: Dog friendly, stroller and wheelchair accessible
