Southtowns Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion Project
Phase 1 Construction Update (September 2024)
Notice to proceed for Phase 1 of the Southtowns Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion Project was issued in December 2023, with the contractor mobilizing onsite soon after. Construction is approximately one-third complete as of September 2024.
The progress thus far includes:
- Electrical substation: approximately 75% of the building structure is complete; the majority of the conduits and duct banks to the substation installed; long-lead time items such as the generator, switchgear, and other equipment have been ordered (with some already delivered).
- Effluent submersible pumping station: excavation has been performed and temporary sheeting/shoring systems installed; the majority of below grade concrete structures have been completed and tested; long-lead time items such as the pumps and associated equipment have been ordered; discharge piping is onsite and ready to be installed.
- Chlorine contact tank: excavation has been performed, all support piles have been installed; approximately 50% of the concrete floor slab and the effluent chamber walls have been poured; steel rebar and concrete form work for the remainder of the structure is in progress.
- Effluent piping: major structures have been ordered and are onsite; interconnections between existing 66โ diameter piping and new piping have been excavated and prepared for installation; outfall diffuser repairs within the lake are complete.

Site work: access roads, site grading, and other features completed throughout the site.
