Free rabies vaccination clinics for cats, ferrets and dogs

Please see below for information about our upcoming free rabies vaccination clinic. We typically hold clinics in January, May and September. Other counties and animal welfare organizations hold rabies vaccine clinics throughout the year. Please contact your veterinarian for questions about your pets and their health.

Upcoming Clinics

Erie County will host two free drive-through rabies vaccine clinics in May 2026 at sites in the Town of Tonawanda and the City of Buffalo, inviting pet owners to take advantage of this public health service to protect dogs, cats and ferrets from this 100% fatal disease.

Things to know before coming to our rabies vaccination clinics

Rabies vaccine clinics

  • Dogs, cats and ferrets, ages 3 months and older, are eligible for this clinic.
  • Make sure pets are in a carrier or have on a collar and short leash. Do not use retractable or extended leashes.
  • Put contact info on your pet's collar and carrier.  Also, consider having your pet microchipped.  Talk to your vet about this.
  • Up to three pets will be accepted per appointment.
  • Bring proof of pet's previous vaccination in order to receive a three-year vaccination certificate, otherwise a one-year certificate will be given.
  • Please contact your veterinarian for vaccination information and for any questions you have regarding your pets.
