Erie County Medical Reserve Corps to Host New Member Orientation on April 8

Local volunteers needed to support public health emergency preparedness

The Erie County Medical Reserve Corps (ECMRC) is inviting community members to join attending a New Member Orientation on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 6-8:30 p.m. at 500 Commerce Drive in Amherst. This orientation – offered in person and virtually – will provide an overview of the ECMRC’s mission, volunteer opportunities and training opportunities.

ECMRC is a volunteer public health emergency response organization, focused on strengthening local preparedness efforts and building a corps of volunteers ready to respond to emergencies. They are seeking both clinical and non-clinical volunteers to support public health initiatives and emergency response activities.

ECMRC members assist in emergency shelter operations and contribute to public health efforts, including rabies vaccine clinics, CPR and First Aid training, and Stop the Bleed classes. Volunteers also play a crucial role in emergency preparedness by participating in training exercises as simulated patients, staffing respite and first aid centers at major community events and representing the ECMRC at health fairs and community events.

"Expanding ECMRC participation and building skills in every neighborhood is key to a stronger, more resilient Erie County. Whether you're a healthcare professional or community member, your contribution helps us prepare for any emergency and support each other when it matters most," said Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein.

ECMRC members have access to free year-round training that builds and expands on skills in preparedness, response, leadership and community resilience. For more information about the ECMRC and other community programs, contact the Erie County Department of Health Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness at (716) 858-7101 or email ecmrc@erie.gov. Everyone who registers will receive a reminder a few days prior to the event, along with a link for virtual attendance.
