Emergency Services, 460 Main St, 2nd floor, may provide one-time payments for extermination inspection and/or treatment, unless you receive Section 8 or have a rodent problem.

  • If you have rat issues, you can contact the Erie County Department of Health’s Rodent Control Program at 961-6800.
  • Along with other common documents needed for application, you’ll need to complete an Extermination Questionnaire/Extermination Questionnaire - Spanish.  If you have had anyone else come out to your home or attempted to treat the problem yourself, that’s important for us to know.
  • If otherwise eligible, we usually authorize our contractor to perform an inspection of your residence first.  During the inspection, the technician will determine whether or not you have pests, and what specific approach should be taken to exterminate them.
    • If the inspection doesn’t confirm any activity, we will not authorize extermination.    ECDSS will still pay for the cost of inspection.
    • If the inspection does confirm activity, we may authorize extermination, provided that:
      • You live in a single-family home, or
      • You live in a multi-family home and the other apartment(s) will also be professionally exterminated by our vendor at the same time.
  • Our vendor requires that the entire house be treated in order for extermination to be successful.  The resident(s) of the neighboring apartment(s) may have to apply for assistance with us, or pay for the cost of extermination on their own.  Alternatively, your landlord may pay the contractor directly for the additional unit’s service.
